Something hit me the other day about music. After an extremely unfortunate and sad occurrence within a relationship, I was sitting and thinking, my mind racing in a relay of various subjects, when it finally occurred to me that it will be a long time before I’ll be able to put my iPod on shuffle, for fear of coming across certain songs that I’m sure would make me cry. All of the sudden it occurred to me: there is very much a reason that the majority of popular music speaks something of a man loving a woman, or vice versa. Love is one of the world’s only true joys. When you love someone, and you know they love you too, there’s something there that makes you feel as if you’re floating on air. All of the sudden, you’re smiling everywhere you go for no reason. You’re happy constantly, even when there’s no cause to be happy. This is why it hurts so much when things go wrong. I honestly believe that heartbreak is one of the worst pains a human being can feel. Not only is there the emotional side to it, but there is actually real physical pain there too that follows you for a long time, even when things are fixed. I suddenly realized though that to think on this pain and to let it take a toll on your body and on your emotions is extremely sinful. That’s what the world does, because they have no hope in anything except being in love. Love is a wonderful thing, but it’s not when it controls us. As Christians especially, we need to realize that the only love that will absolutely never fail is Christ’s love for us. You tend to ignore that fact when things are going great and you think that a person is never going to fail you, but when they do, you realize how true that fact is. This is why praise songs to God are so beautiful. They are the only love songs you can always relate to, and are never going to bring back painful memories. So…above will be one of my favorite worship songs of all time.
